Monetary Policy in India Objectives and Framework of Monetary Policy---- In India, the objectives of monetary policy evolved for maintaining price stability and ensuring adequate flow of credit to the productive sectors of the economy. With progressive liberalization and increasing globalization of the economy, maintaining orderly conditions in the financial markets emerged as an additional policy objective. The Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934 (RBI Act) has been amended by the Finance Act, 2016,  to provide for a statutory and institutionalised framework for a Monetary Policy Committee, for maintaining price stability, while keeping in mind the objective of growth. The Monetary Policy Committee would be entrusted with the task of fixing the benchmark policy rate (repo rate) required to contain inflation within the specified target level. BANKING & FINANCIAL AWARENESS JUNE 1ST WEEK  BY B.K SHARMA 1.RBI keeps repo Rates unchanged in 2nd Bi-monthly Monetary policy 2017-18 i.  the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decided to: Keep the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) unchanged at 6.25 per cent. Consequently, the reverse repo rate under the LAF remains at 6.0 per cent, and The Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate at 6.50 per cent. Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) remains unchanged at 4%. As per RBI's report, the decision of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is consistent with a neutral stance of monetary policy in consonance with the objective of achieving the medium-term target for consumer price index (CPI) inflation of 4 per cent within a band of +/- 2 percent, while supporting growth.
